An opportunity to learn about, build, and deploy a Ruby on Rails application in one day! Sarah Mei and Sarah Allen of RailsBridgeconducted a special "boot camp" to get new developers up and running on Ruby on Rails. Participants came with just your laptop, and by the end of the day they had written and tested a working Rails application, and even deployed it to the web. Participants learnt state-of-the-art techniques from professional Rails developers and trainers. Plus it was fun!
For anyone interested in Rails, comfortable with their computer and the web, and have built web pages or web applications before.
For Web designers - An opportunity to go deeper into the technology stack.
For PHP developers, .NET developers, Java developers - a chance to learn a new language & bring some ideas back to their primary development environment, enrich their skill-set, and have fun doing it!
The workshop was broken into two parts. On Tuesday evening, the participants brought their laptop, met the instructors and the other participants, and got all the tools they need installed.
On Wednesday's day long session, the focus was on learning and writing code. The instructors guided the classes, and there were volunteer experts to help during coding sessions. The participants did lots of hands-on development, and deployed their application to the web multiple times during the session! The participants left with a working application that they could add to and experiment with at leisure.
Tuesday 7pm-9pm, Oct 5th, 2010: Ruby on Rails InstallFest. Participants get their environment set up and ready to go. Food and drinks were available, and volunteers helped the participants in installing Ruby, Rails, and all the tools and programs necessary. The participants left with a Rails environment ready to go on their laptop.
